Things I wanted to say

Decisions, decisions.

I read a great article from Derek Sivers about the ripple effect of the decisions we take in our lives. The argument from Derek is very obvious, so obvious that most of us never think like that.

I also think that our decisions have still a much higher effect on our children, specially with everything that has to do with their education, not just the school they attend, but the options we push them towards, whether we are more inclined towards music lessons, science experiments, travel, and other things that slowly give shape to their culture and inclinations.

But if there is something of capital importance in the trajectories their lives will take, that is the place where we decide to live. This will dwarf most other decisions in terms of future consequences in the life trajectories of our children.

I have two children entering adolescence, and I often worry about my decision to live in Germany and how that will affect their lives. Perhaps I should follow Derek's advice and start by thinking of where I want to be in the future, then decide what steps I can follow to try to get there.
